Hypatia was to blame for the conflict. In the spring of 415 C.E., the situation reached a tragic conclusion when a band of Christian monks seized Hypatia on the street, beat her, and dragged her body to a church where they mutilated her flesh with sharp tiles and burned her remains.
Hypatia was also a Moor. not Greek. and continued at Alexandria after alexander the "great" conquered Persia.

Hypatia's prominence was accentuated by the fact that she was both female and pagan in an increasingly Christian environment. Shortly before her death, Cyril was made the Christian bishop of Alexandria, and a conflict arose between Cyril and the prefect Orestes. Orestes was disliked by some Christians and was a friend of Hypatia, and rumors started that

@caodapengtj That would be cool! Of course, it's also very likely we would have developed the atomic bomb that much earlier as well.

I think if the hellenistic civilizations were not destroyed, we are more likely to be on the moon by 1000AD, and far out of solar system by now.

She should be a household name, right? I'm going to try to write something good to commemorate her passion for truth.

I am sad that until a couple of hours ago I had never heard of Hypatia, her name, who she was and what she did. But now I have I see what a terrible crime was commited against one of the special few who could have paved the way for humanity to reach for a new golden way had they been allowed to work without intolerance.
I am glad I've been enlightened about her this Sunday evening, I hope the rest of humanity will find its own enlightenment in time.

@plateofshrimp80s you can't deny that society would be much more advanced in nearly every aspect (scientifically, philosophically, ethically, etc) had the library survived. So much greek advances in medicine and science lost. The few that survived were used by the muslims and gave them a golden age, while europeans wallowed in ignorance and superstition.

Today is Womens Day..I lift the and honer Hypatia of Alexandria..
Her life was tragically ended like many other women through out the ages and today.. Due to ideology and indoctrination..May the light of the Divine Feminine invoke each of us to reclaim our places as the Goddess, Mother, Warioresses, and Priestess that we truly are..creating balance, love, and truth...
Had these abrahmic faiths not plundered and ancient civlizations of egypt and india and china had come closer, the worl d would have been a very different place. No religious bigotry and a more humane world.
