Here is another example of why the Russian-style parachute system is superior to the American dope-on-a-rope, static-line system because the former enables force commanders an option of high altitude deliveries above enemy detection and man portable air defense systems (MANPADS) since the drogue chute stabilizes the body without civilian sky diving body position training to effect a rapid descent before the main parachute is opened at low altitude. The Norwegian SF realize this efficiency and jump with drogue chutes and not rely on body antics as the YOUTUBE video below shows:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHPBFRlKd44

Right now we can only jump one Paratrooper at-a-time from the rear ramp of C-130s/CH-47s/C-27Js because only one anchor line cable is offered and we want jumpers to exit away from the static-lines and d-bags collecting at the end.

If we got rid of the deployment bag dangling from the long 15-20 foot universal static-line and went to a short one that opens a small drogue parachute like the Russian parachutes we could probably attach a second anchor line cable to the rear ramp and have two jumpers exit-at-a-time; but right now there's too much crap flopping around in the slipstream for two sticks of jumpers to exit.

So its possible to have 3-4 sticks of Paras to exit at the same time if we improved our parachutes to the Russian drogue chute system; 2 sticks alternating out the side jump doors while one or even two sticks exit from the rear ramp following their M113 Gavin light tracked armored fighting vehicles on Type V airdrop platforms roll-out.

Many competent parachute companies could create a drogue-deployed version of our new T-11 parachute IF we'd be wise enough to ASK THEM them to do it. Current parachute technology is about 4 decades ahead of the majority of the Americans in uniform who jump.

  • As a Pole I know paratroopers are not needed for a countrys freedom.

  • As someone who has had his nation's ass kicked and had its freedom taken away when it DID NOT HAVE PARATROOPERS who can rapidly reposition I'll take your words as expert on what NOT to do.

  • Theese are for HALO jumps right? Wont work for Static line and HAHO?

  • These ARE static-line jump parachutes. The static line opens the pack tray for a pilot/drogue chute. You could open right away for HAHO but these are round parachutes with no forward drive for steering, so yes HALO only.

  • Look up HALO. Thats how we get the real work done. Jump from 35,000ft at night, 10 miles from the target. Form up while falling, fly our bodies toward the target until we open chutes at low altitude and glide in silently. Dope on a rope is rarely used. Unless we're invading. Dope on a rope is great for getting 3000 people into a very small area very fast.

  • You miss the point. This IS dope-on-a-rope from high altitude. With round chutes without forward drive, no horizontal stand-off but delayed opening to low altitude.

  • @Paciat

First of all whats needed is a Political class that aren't a bunch of Anglo-American establishment sellout. If you go to these guys site, you can read a lot, its quite interesting. Good to see at least some American traditionalists are alive and kicking.

  • founded a statue in Holland for their Polish colleagues admitting that if there wasn't for their fierce stand, 1st Para would have had it much more difficult to evacuate their men from Arnhem bridge

  • Bthw: Polish paratroopers in WW2 never made it to motherland, they were dropped in Holland during the operation Market Garden. Polish Brigade was the unit exposed farthest north from all allied troops. They landed north from Major Frost's men, in the town of Driel or nearby, they were dropped on the heads of Germans.

Only recently British veterans from 1st Airborne Div
