8th December 2004 - A rare day with several supercells in New South Wales. Timelapse near the dryline at Nyngan, despite obvious rotation this cell failed to produce a tornado.

  • Am i wrong or do i see several funnels appearing?

  • @eddihaskell The funnel like clouds are tags of scud lifting into a very strong updraft. Had this storm been in the USA the dynamics would have been just a little different and you would be anticipating a tornado, here from some reason there are always things missing - low level shear was borderline, which was probably the main one.

  • what is a supercell exactly?

  • A thunderstorm with persistant rotating updraft
