@hipguide Thank you for letting me know the guys name. Hal Blaine. Wow amazing drummer....So long ago. I was only 15 at the time.

@shirebourne It was Hal Blaine. The beginning of the record, with the base drum beat, was Hal's way of making the horns come in on time.

Yes, shirebourne, there was quite a bit of talk about The Wrecking Crew last night on AM 640 KFI. It seems like those boys were everywhere! However, they said the 70s changed all that, being that bands like The Doobies insisted on doing their own instrumental work.

I believe Herb used a drummer from The Wrecking Crew on this number. The Wrecking Crew (Hollywoods best kept secret) consisted of session musicians in the 60's who the record labels would use instead of the real musicians. One example is Mr. Tamberine Man by The Birds was recorded without the original musicians. Their producer didn't think they were capable musicians, and replaced them with members of The Wrecking Crew. Glenn Campbell was a prominent member before he went out on is own.

In my opinion, the woman on the older album cover was better-looking...but no matter..this Music is good and that's all that's important.

@phinupi76 Well, I am 58 and don't have any religious fixation on any football team and, yes, I am a so called white person. Thank you very much for your kind compliment concerning my father. Interesting how certain tunes =we identify with certain moments in our lives. God bless Herb Alpert for taking care of so much music.

@texasjohnnyboy Dear Texasjohnnyboy, We probably don't have much in common. I am probably older (55), I was born and raised in Philly. And yes I am a green-bleeding Eagles fan who hasn't liked the Cowboys since the Roger Staubach/Tom Landry days of the 70's. I also happen to be African-American (assuming you are white). But I too, like your father, loved this piece. I was a 9 yr old music-lover and it brings back good memories of the mid 60's. May your dad rest in peace. God Bless America!

Sad but true, in the long run it all comes down to that almighty dollar! I grew up listening to the Tijuana Brass, The Lonely Bull was another one of my Favorites.
Most people know Herb Alpert from his music and the music is fabulous. Who else he was: around 1961 him and a friend started a record label called A&M records. They really cared about music. Approximately 27 years later (1988) they sold A&M records for 500 million dollars. In the next 10 yrs, corporate America (not caring about the music but, caring about ONLY the bottom line) ran A&M records into the ground & into non existance. When Herb was there, the music mattered! Thank you Herb!
