I dont understand a single thing about scoring in these games... Cave mechanics are best

@Annoyboy Stage 1 is simple but the later stages won't be as easy. The longer you stay powered up at MAX, the more aggressive the enemies will get. Trust me. I survived powered up till Stage 3. Enemies fire like hell and bullets were flying all over the level, plus they take more shots to die.

dude are you purposely trying to make this game impossible for yourself? You're firing continuously, that's going to rank it to the max.

Great game, but dynamically difficult. I generally have more fun if I just ignore rank and get all the powerups. Do that though, and the game literally becomes impossible.

I personally don't like it enough to buy it, but most people highly recommend it. Why not try emulating it with MAME?
