October 24 A Global Day of Climate Action
visit 350.org/Australia
For nearly a hundred years, the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, as a result of human activity, has been steadily on the rise. Our best scientists say that 350 parts per million is the safe limit for humanity.
Continuing to pour carbon into the atmosphere at the current rate, is keeping our planet in the danger zone. Were already starting to see real signs of trouble from melting ice caps and more erratic weather to decade long droughts and greater numbers of bush fires.
On 24 October, were holding a Global Day of Climate Action to let world leaders know we want to get the planet back on track to 350. From Bangladesh to Brisbane, Paris to Perth, thousands of communities in more than a 111 countries will be holding events to highlight the number 350.
A group photograph of every event will be linked together via the web to connect the entire planet and create a powerful visual petition to world leaders. In December leaders of the free world will gather in Copenhagen to try to create a new agreement to reduce global carbon emissions. October 24 is our best and possibly last chance to send them a message.
Whether your passion is human rights, jobs, public health, marine life or the wilderness - climate change will impact your world. If you do nothing else this year, October 24 is the day to stand up. So open up your calendar or wake up your mobile phone and highlight October 24. Got soccer practice that day? Skip it. Got relatives coming to town? Bring them along. Now go find your local event
Together we can solve the climate crisis.
