Iqbal - 2005 Hindi Bollywood film written by Vipul K Rawal and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and was released under Subhash Ghai new banner, Mukta Searchlight Films.Starring : Naseeruddin Shah,Girish Karnad,Shreyas Talpade,Shweta Prasad, Music composed by duo Salim-Sulaiman.
The story follows a cricket-obsessed boy from a remote Indian village as he aims to overcome his difficulties and become a cricketer and fulfil his dream of playing for the Indian national cricket team.Iqbal was well received by critics and audiences alike, and became the highest grossing low-budget film in the year.Shreyas Talpade won the Zee Cine Critics Award - Best Actor. Swetha Prasad received universal praise for her role as the caring younger sister of Iqbal
Iqbal tells the story of Iqbal - Shreyas Talpad, a deaf and mute boy, who dreams of playing cricket for India. However, he is discouraged by his father who thinks that Iqbal's daydreams are a waste of time. Instead, he wants Iqbal to help him tend to the crops and become a farmer like him, which would be a stable profession.
Iqbal sister, Khadija - Shweta Prasad, however, helps him try out for a nearby academy. Iqbal seeks help from the local drunkard, Mohit - Naseeruddin Shah, who was once a great cricketer and persuades him to be his coach. Mohit trains Iqbal and gets him a place on the Andhra Pradesh Ranji Trophy team, despite Iqbal not having any previous cricketing experience.Iqbal plays marvelously for the team, which was a weak team before he joined, and is soon noticed by the press and cricket selectors alike. Iqbal wins the match for his team and impresses the onlooking national team selector Kapil Dev (in a special guest role), and wins a place in the national team.

I loooove this movie! Such a difficult subject but dealt with clarity. Of course the ending is wayy too orchestrated but thats what we wanna see in movies. Love the lead guy x

Indeed, the script by Vipul K Rawal was really brilliant. I came to know that the story originally was about a hockey player but it was then changed to accommodate the nation's passion, Cricket. However, the wrtier Vipul K Rawal decided never to work with Nagesh Kukunoor and Subhash Ghai again. It is said that after the supersuccess of this film, both Nagesh Kukunoor and Subhash Ghai were desperate to sign Vipul K Rawal again, but he refused.

This is one of those instances when a Brilliant script salvaged shoddy and amateur direction. The script by Vipul K Rawal is mind boggling and superb. If you notice, after falling out with Vipul K Rawal, Nagesh has not been able to give a single hit. He should beg Vipul to work with him because only then he will come up with a good film. Otherwise, it is curtains for Nagesh Kukunoor.
