Another experiment in mic placement and amp combinations. I am playing one of Buddy Guy's favorite stage rigs of a vintage 1964 Vibroverb/Tweed Bassman combo. He says he has the Tweed Bassman on stage just for mojo so the majority of his sound must be coming from the Vibroverb. It is hard to duplicate without cranking the amps a little more. The Vibroverb is on 2-1/2 and the Bassman is on 3-1/2. On stage, I would probably have the Vibroverb bewteen 4-5 and the same for the Bassman. I turn on the TS808 occasionally but would much prefer to play this combo clean since the tone is sparkly without it.

  • Sound is great. But for GOD SAKE PLAY THE SCALE PATTERN IN ANOTHER POSITION. Move around the fret board..

  • @water2zero Too experimental I guess. The song doesn't start until around 5:00 into the video.

  • OMG I wish I had both a Fender Vibroverb, and Fender Bassman! The tone is awesome!

  • @johnnyleetoneThanks. My tone has improved since this video. I need to do some updates. Since this vid, I have recapped both amps, put a new improved Callaham block on my Strat, and switched to the Fulltone OCD. I also found out that I love Amperex 12AX7's and have put them in all three of the blackfaces.

  • @millstap Awesome! What kind of caps did you put in the amp? I have an OCD too, and I love the sound from it. I've yet to try Amperex tubes in my amp because I've been using a mixture of Tungsram, Philips, and GE tubes for my amp, but trying Amperex is on my to do list! Now what exactly is a Callaham block? I've been meaning to get around to putting a block of wood behind the bridge of my Strat. Is a Callaham block something similar?
