  • @ElixirOfKnowledge Well Shaolin monks learn Kung fu for 6 hours a day and also 6 hours of zen buddism. To be a shaolin martial monk (disciple) you need to have both kung fu skills and full buddist devotion. So I think you can be a shaolin monk without buddism but wont be able to become an official diciple. :)

  • Shaolin Monks generally portray a simple life. At a very young age, they start their day with strenuous exercises to get the strength, agility and flexibility where they are now. It's not just kung fu/martial arts they practice, but the discipline as well (meditation and buddism). It's a second way of life they're living and to think about how they live a simple life (when not travelling or performing) is pretty amazing. They deserve more respect and acknowledgement than they are getting now.
