Stephen Sondheim Theatre Unveiled on Broadway

There was perhaps no better way to kickoff the latest Broadway season than to usher in a new era in Times Square with a celebration of the preeminent composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. The creator of such classic musicals as 'Sweeney Todd,' 'A Little Night Music' and 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' joined the ranks of theatrical legends with the naming of a Broadway theatre in his honor -- the newly christened Stephen Sondheim Theatre's marquee was illuminated for the first time last night in a star-studded ceremony on its front steps.

I had the chance to attend Wednesday night's lighting ceremony and shoot video of the entire affair.

I wish I could give Stephen Sondheim a big hug. Not just for all his beautiful contributions to music but how for the way his music has affected me and changed my life. His lyrics are what first pulled me into musical theatre, and now it's the biggest part of my life. And I just want to give him a big bear hug to thank him.

But I guess a theatre will have to do for now :)
