Re books: A lot of authors I know have said repeatedly that the best way to become a better author is to read a lot, specifically things in the fields that you are interested in writing about. So if you want to become a better sci-fi author the best thing you can do is read a lot of sci-fi books or books about science fiction.

So if you were only interested in becoming a better Blog-author the best thing to do is to read a lot of blogs, but if you want to write in other fields, read books.
