In my first official visit as the new Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, I went to Fawood Children's Centre in Stonebridge, north-west London.
Together with the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the Leader of the House of Commons Harriet Harman, and local MP Dawn Butler, I met parents and children who use the centre.
The centre provides nursery facilities for about 57 two-to-four-year-olds but also delivers information, courses and services for adults - anything ranging from education classes to information about vaccinations.
what a wonderful day. looks like those kids are having a eally good start in life all thanks to these new schemes. may it long continue!

I don't remember ever having a personal visit from the Prime Minister when I was in primary school. Oh yes, that's because I didn't go to one of those inner London 'projects' which seem so fashionable with politicians these days. Will they ever venture beyond the M25? I imagine some of those parents couldn't even speak proper English - I bet they couldn't believe their luck! It's like the British Government governs London first, the rest of the country second.
