Castle Irwell is a large meadow surrounded by the River Irwell as it meanders through the Kersal Flood Plain. The name Castle Irwell was given by a large manor house that had the look of a castle that was on some raised ground on the meadow.
The meadow later became the site of The Manchester Racecourse, this has also gone now and been replaced by the Castle Irwell Students Campus.
Kersal Dale & the Landslide is to the North of Castle Irwell and on the opposite side of the River, joined by Kersal Footbridge.
The Landslide is given its name due to the land constantly slipping towards the river as it cuts its way around the meadow.
Born in Ford place 1958 (behind the Griffin Pub) and the landslide was the limit of our territory, play all day by the manky irwell, swing in the trees and then wait for a glimpse of the ManU players at the cliff on our way home. What wonderful memories this video brings back, thanks for posting.

Not been there for many a year - I well remember the race-course - such a pity it's gone. Thanks for the trip. All the best :o) Alan
