Impromptu aerobatic video created by Tom Anderson, one of my flying buddies. This video was made in June of 2005 and had 19,000+ views before it was removed and re-uploaded with different music and some added clips. Tom happened to have his video setup he used on his R/C models in his car, and asked if we could install it in the Rans S-9. It was time to fly and this is what we came up with.
This aircraft can be purchased in kit form from Tracy at rans.com. The engine is a custom made two cylinder two cycle snowmobile engine, running two watercraft carburetors, at the time of this video. The weight of this plane is 545 pounds and has a climb rate of almost 2000 feet per minute. This S-9 was built by Joncy Walden, and what a nice job he did.
At age 39 I taught myself how to fly in a powered hang glider (see my EZ Rizer video) which I still fly today. A few years later I taught myself aerobatics, especially inverted maneuvers, in a borrowed Quicksilver MXL Super ultralight that belonged to a friend. Eleven years later I obtained my private pilot rating, and have owned two conventional airplanes. Later I wanted to rent an aerobatic plane to entertain my friends, so I found a Citabria Super Decathlon which required a 3.2 hour check ride to obtain the keys to that plane. Being handed those keys was one of the most memorable moments of my flying.
Hope you enjoy watching the video as much as we did making it.
FAA records show this plane has been deregistered? Why?

@tinyauto When I sold the plane I did not want the liability of someone crashing the plane which could cause the builder and I trouble. The engine was sold, and it was disassembled and sold for parts. Hey, I managed to get hundreds of hours having fun in spite of the three in-air engine seizures. I don't even have a glider rating.
