Canadian National Railroad wants to buy the train tracks in our U.S. community. They predict the train traffic will increase from 30 trains a day to over 70 and grow after that. They have a horrible safety record for crossings and train maintenance. They want U.S. tax payers to pay for underpasses to allow commuters and safety vehicles ample time to cross the tracks. The noise and air pollution is also a hugh issue. This purchase will affect 1.6 million people trying the cross the tracks every day. DID I MENTION THIS IS A CANADIAN COMPANY PROFITING OFF THE CITIZENS OF THE U.S. AND THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE!!!
For information on how to prevent this from happening go to http://www.aurora-il.org/cn_railway/index.php

  • for the last comment...you need to get your facts straight...if the sale goes through the Service Transportation board stated that at least 20 if not more under/over passes are needed at the expense on our US taxpayers and not the company who is planning to increase freight by 4 times and increase the length of the trains from 1-2 mile trains to 4-6 mile trains meaning delays far much more then you are stating...some trains will even stop at a crossing so that they may switch to another track

  • Who thinks of shit like this? If you don't like trains, don't go where they are at! What stupid people fail to realize is the railroad was there before the town.

  • @iais502 yea ya know what they were sayin 600 car trains in my town. Ha they must be really short cars

  • @britfrenir CN bought this so they can have a faster route around Chicago for their traffic that bypasses the city.

  • @marcusal6 LOL! Our trains are never longer than 2.3 miles.

  • @Finianisback I know this is old, but I want to give an update for what I know. The sale did go thru, and they are in fact running longer trains. Some trains still run to Chicago while most of their trains in Griffith are switching between EJ&E & CN. Some trains even back up in Griffith from the CN to the EJ&E in order to go to Gary, & vice versa. Broad Street in Griffith is the worst point between CN & EJ&E tracks. I wonder where the worst point's at where the tracks meet in Illinois.

  • I wonder if the E J and E would have be abandoned if not for he Canadian Nation Railroad. It is a potential walking jogging and bicycle path. Rail road companies that buy other railroads were called railroad barrons. It is in Canada yet it buys here. My father say they bought it for when nuclear waste gets moved.

  • somebody should ask CN if they're gonna pay for cleanup after the rockford derailment which they claim is UP"S fault for not closing the tracks after they were flooded and killed a lady in her car its just like CN too put the blame on somebody else

  • Longer trains are one concern. Reduced brake maintenance and increase derailments of toxic chemicals is another. As a Canadian Id have to say buyer beware. This deregulated train industry has basically no public accountability whatsoever.
