  • Yes, he was a very averaged sized mustang. And Mike is a large rider -- 225 lbs and 6'2" tall, so it makes Cheveyo feel smaller, as does the camera angle.

  • wow you guys are awesome

and thans for doing what you do :)

  • Thanks,Chels. We still miss our Cheveyo, every day, and I think we will every day forward. He was a very special boy who touched a lot of hearts. His memory lives on in the memorial round pen we are building and the training arena now bears his name.

  • I think what your doing is great. I couldn't do it. Keep up the good work. And keep us updated. Harry

  • thanks, Harry. this little guy is a joy to work with. If you've ever trained a horse, I think you'd find that, once someone had him started and had the very basics in place, a formerly wild mustang is the easiest horse you'll ever train. They have no preconceptions, no prelearned behaviors or bad habits. What a joy this boy is. What a joy.

  • For the love of God.... get out of that horses mouth! Of course he's backing up, you are giving him NO RELIEF from pressure. If you don't know any better or don't have better hands than that get someone else to train this horse or atleast for heaven sake's ride him in a halter.

  • Happy,

I hope you've come back to visit another time, and watched the later videos where you can actually see how soft Mike's hands are. In fact, the day 70 video is a brief piece of more than 10 minutes of riding with NO rein contact at all whatsoever.

  • wooooow!! he's quite small!!!

  • for those who commented/asked/wanted to ask, Cheveyo had a lot of time between the mounting block and rail prior to this first ride. In fact, that's where he ate dinner the night and morning before. The slot is wider than it looks, and he has plenty of room to move. He's verycomfortable there, in fact he sees it as 'home base', a resting point when he's nervous/stressed.

  • Happy,

Thank you for your input, and, after reading your comments, i can see where the clip may be confusing. Thanks for giving me the chance to clarify. (I'm the videographer/editor.)

Cheveyo was intentionally backed out of the mounting block. Mike actually isn't heavy handed at all. I regret that this video gives that impression.

I'm looking forward to future clips with real real lighting.
