Products I use one or a combination of these. The following are the safest Organic Products I've found so far.

Organic:
Water is the Key For Washing and Styling (Do Not Towel Dry, Style While Wet, and Let it Air Dry)

Shampoo/Conditioners by Alaffia: http://www.carenonline.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=alaffia

Emollient (oil): Vegetable Glycerine by NOW, Castor Oil, or Olive Oil

Leave-in: Alaffia Virgin Coconut & Shea, Kinky Curly Knot Today, Oyin Honey Hemp (www.oyinhandmade.com)

Butters: I purchase and mix Avocado & Mochoccino but there are others to choose from
http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/Butters.asp

Gel: Kinky Curly Curling Custard or Aubrey Organics B5

Sealants (oils): Not Required, but I use Jojoba or Olive Oil to oil the scalp and Seal hair

Pomade: Tea Tree & Grapeseed Therapeutic Pomade by Qhemet Biologics
http://www.qhemetbiologics.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=TGTP

Directions:
Choose One to Three of the above Listed
If i choose one, it would be the butters from www.FromNatureWithLove.com
if I choose two, it would be an
1st combo choice (Emollient or Leave-in) and (Gel or Butter) or...
2nd combo choice. (Butter and Gel)

If i choose three, it would be
an emollient, a leave-in, and gel or a leave-in, a butter and gel

There is no right combination but when combining try to work with one that softens (emollient, leave-in) and one that holds (gel or butter). Never use Gels alone.

When she wears afro puffs, Wash her hair every 2 to 3 days refreshing inbetween.
When she wears protective styles I wash her hair every 3 to 7 days.
I only detangle once a week or once every two weeks.

Remember Water is Moisture,
Oils are Emollients (softens), Humectant (attracts moisture), and Sealants (all oils are not the same, I have provided a list of emollients above. Vegetable Glycerine is an emollient and humectant)

Alternative Products:
There's always the No-poo Method (: baking soda and water to wash, acv and water to rinse, always follow with a conditioner)
Shampoo: EO Clarifying Shampoo
Conditioner: Dessert Essence Jojoba Conditioner, EO Chamomile & Honey, Giovanni Magnetic Power Treatment, Mill Creek Botanicals or Suave Coconut Conditioner
Leave-in: (Beauty Without Cruelty) BWC Organic aromatherpy
Butter: SheaMoisture Leave-in
Gel: Fantasia (the one with the Green Top or Purple Top) or ECO Styling Gel
Sealant (oil): see the ones above there may be others that I have not tested as of today
Pomade: see the ones above there may be others that I have not tested as of today

No Rubber Bands Required
This style can last up to a week
And Remember Water is the Key (Do Not Towel Dry, Style While Wet, and Let it Air Dry)

all other products can be found at your Local Whole Foods Market or www.LuckyVitamin.com but it's up to you to read the ingredients (remember my Let's Talk Organic Vlog)

  • how did you style it when she was younger

my baby girl will never sit still for that long

i like my girls natural curly hair but its so crazy i just want to be able to make it look neat when we are out

shes only 21 months but she has thick curly hair plus even when i tie the longer part of her hair the little baby hairs in the front stick out

i just want it to look neat

    any suggestions

  • When she was younger I would style her hair in 6 (when her hair was shorter), 4 (two in the front, two in the back) or 2 (high or low) ponytails in coils, braids or puffs. Rarely would I do one because of the stress one ponytail does to the edges. Also I would always change around the parts (keeping it parted the same way all the time will cause hair loss around the edges).

  • i loovvee this hairstyle, im 16 and i always blowdry my hair after washing so this would be good for me but i dont think my stretches like hers when you braid it i thinik mine will shrink and you used shea butter before braiding or a leave in conditioner?

  • After washing never towel dry

I use one or a combo of the following

    1. an emollient (which is an oil that softens, our favorite is Apricot Kernel, but one that you may find around the house is extra virgin olive oil).

    2. a leave-in (such as KCKT, alaffia, BWC)

    3. a creme (such as oyin, sheamoisture, qhemet)

    4. a butter (fromnaturewithlove is my favorite)

    5. or gel (KCCC or ECO or Fantasia IC Olive Gel (I only use the green (olive) ECO and Fantasia).

No more than 2 or 3 products used.

  • She is such a cutie! I am preggo with my first daughter and I am excited! Getting knowledge from watching your videos!

  • This is so helpful. Your daughter has the same texture/length as my daughter. Only I've used rubber bands (ugh) and clips to keep her twists/braids in.

I will try this. In the past I didn't towel dry or apply this method. It was great, except I used rubber bands. I will try your method. My daughter's 5 years old. Thanks for this. Its' very informative.
