@Braydonkline123 Along with the color vga camera and IR camera, the Kinect has an Infrared laser with a diffuser that has a set pattern of dots. and the IR camera picks up the dots projected on stationary or moving objects, and processes their relation in X-Y. THAT'S how it sees "3D". It doesn't actually use both cameras for 3d processing. The color camera is for video and color tracking for certain games.

@Braydonkline123 I think the projector has some type of filter with huge amount of holes (it can be created by laser)
