the name for turtle in Yiddish comes from East Slavic. In Russian it is "cherpakha".

to me it´s interesting to fill my gaps in yiddish (I´m german speaking) by learning polish.

do you know the word: vos-ever? I heard it in boro park/brooklyn. it means that yiddish is still alive and developing (IMO).
