This little brown bat was starving and disoriented and wandered into my house. Having rescued it from my cats I started feeding her in an attempt to nurse her back to health. Having taken her into the office (she wanted daytime feedings as well as nighttime at first) she became the official office mascot and is being fed and pampered by almost everyone. As you will see from the video she is eating well and has resumed grooming herself. I will be releasing her into her natural habitat shortly and hope that she thrives for years to come.

  • who is she named after? you're kind to have taken care of her.

  • The most famous bat, the Louisville Slugger. I can't resist a pun. Nor can I resist taking care of a bat. They're flying rats. Gotta' love 'em.

  • Aw, Little Louisa is so cute.

  • She is. I wish I didn't have to release her back to the wild.

  • She fared well. She gained weight and was sufficiently healthy to be released so we let her go in a wooded area near some caves that was by the office. Since I don't have tracking devices I do not know for certain that she's thriving but I'm confident she was in the best, possible position to do so. Thank you so much for asking!

  • You both lucked out. A grounded bat is often a sick bat, and anytime you or someone in your family is exposed to one, you have to assume rabies. That this little guy is content to let you feed it demonstrates that it likely doesn't have rabies, which causes a fear of all other living things and an aversion to water. Still, you took a risk you probably shouldn't have.

  • She's so cute, i love bats!

  • Are you feeding her scorpions? centipedes? Looks like meat :3
