Just saw Neal Stephenson debuting his new book, Anathem, last night - a neopythagorean barn-raising like this is right out of that book!
Neal had some aikidoka friends of his dressed in the robes of math-monks, doing aiki-kendo with shovels. Reminded me of Pommel, the Lunarvillain who *happened* to have a tattoo of the merkabah (Search Engine) on his sternum, who came with his sword and prayed under the Engine as soon as it was up.
Fitting that the artist, David Charboneau, is an aikidoka!
The perfectly timed live music was blasted by our neighbors Ballistic Bob and co. at Lunarville. They also helped with a megaphone, a floodlight, help rigging the raising, 'Safety Third' cordon tape, an offer to paint the Engine with their serious lasers, and by blasting Pink Floyd during a day-long dust storm.
Search Engine was like a BRC math-flower attracting engineer bees .. 21st c. community spirit at its finest!
