This contraption was designed and built by the students in the Gateway to Technology class for prospective middle-school instructors. It is believed to be the largest contraption of its kind in Warrensburg, Mo.
The sub-systems were designed and built by Austin Anderson, Sarah Church, Dean Grace, Deborah Wilson, and Larry Whittlesey.
The contraption has:
9 first class levers
1 second class lever
2 screws or spirals
6 pulleys
1 wheel and axle
34 inclined planes
7 wedges
and has a total of 33 individual actions in the system.
Why A Contraption?
The design and construction of this contraption is a part of the GTT Science of Technology unit which, "traces how science has affected technology throughout history. Students learn about the mechanics of motion, the conversion of energy, and the use of science to improve communication."
