Are You Gay?

This is a question that I have been asked more than once. A discussion on being gay today and certain stereotypes surrounding it.

This one time at an anime convention, I bought a rainbow flag and since I didn't have a bag with me, I carried it around with me for the rest of the day, and I ended up waving it around during the masquerade (which is a show with skits and videos)... My straight best friend said I was shoving it in her face, but it was a freaking anime convention!

Loved the video. The only big issue I had with it is that you said "... we need to treat people that are gay with a lot of compassion and also respect and not be judgmental." (3:57), you also said "... not treat gay people in an extra-odinary special way either." (4:39). It is not just the LGBT community that those rules apply to, it is all people. But I thought it was amazing and agreed with everything else you said! I watched it a few times back to back to make sure. Haha!

No clue why people think we're more compassionate and sensitive than straight guys. Stereotypes are just a result of peoples desires to find patterns to label people based off.

I'm the stereotype of a heterosexual guy. I'm tough, athletic, and love to compete. No one guesses at first that I'm gay, though they think I'm a girl if my hair is long. As I fit none of the stereotypes.

Though I'm about as straight as a circle.

i have also been asked this question because as woman I have expressed no desire to have children and because I don't wear makeup very often, coupled with the fact that I am assertive. I also have tons of gay and lesbian friends and whenever someone asks me that question in front of them they just laugh so hard... Gays and lesbians are just like us. Stereotypes suck.

I think people shouldnt percieve the question "are you gay?" in a negative way. Its just a simple question of curiousity.

One day we will have no stereotypes. We wont be able to tell if that person walking down the street is male, female, gay or straight. "are you gay?" will be as commonly asked as "whats your favorite color?"
