Music has had a home in Cedar City, Utah, since the city was first founded by the pioneers. The Orchestra of Southern Utah continues this long standing tradition by bringing musical excellence to Cedar City, Iron County and Southern Utah. Located less than two hours from Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Cedar Breaks National Monument, and home of several festivals, Cedar City is an ideal location for anyone who loves beautiful scenery and cultural excellence at their doorstep.
The Orchestra of Southern Utah performs their concerts in the beautiful Heritage Theatre located in Historic Downtown Cedar City.
The orchestra has been honored with many awards. The Spanish Trail Suite with video enhancement was honored with three national awards in June 2008, two from the League of American Orchestras and the Silver Telly in conjunction with Video Ideas of Chattanooga, Tennessee. This community orchestra has also received national recognition through three National Endowment of the Arts "Challenge America" grants. In June 2009 the OSU received a "Special Award of Excellence" from the League of American Orchestras at the Chicago Conference for the Africa project. A year later, OSU was recognized with a Gold Book Roundtable presentation at the League of American Orchestras for the "Baby Ears" project that provides a CD of quality music to the parents of newborns through the local hospital
Musicians include area musicians from Cedar City, Enoch, Parowan, St. George, Enterprise, and Beaver.
