  • There was a time when I considered this the best VG music I had ever heard, at least, within the range of PC Doom-> late PS1.

The simulation of air noises, the thematic consistency, the build up at various stages in the song, it's just really well written.

  • great music. Sakimoto sure knew how to make some nice genesis tunes.

  • Just plain awesome.

  • It seems like out of the four Elements, Air always gets the best music. It happened in Gauntlet 4, it happened in Chakan: The Forever Man, it happened in...okay, I'm out of examples now.

But Air just seems to lend itself to racing, ethereal-sounding tunes, and Transparent Obstacles goes above and beyond here.

  • follin brothers VS hitoshi sakimoto!

  • @pekod1 It remains, in my opinion one of the most solid soundtracks in the Genesis library. It doesn't have that "Genesis" sound that haters rant about, and sounds more akin to what the SNES was capable of. To me, it doesn't matter what the sound capabilities of a system are, it's all in how you use it. And, Atari (Tengen) mastered it in every possible way here.

  • Is there any chance you might upload March in the dark and the rest of this phenomenal soundtrack? It is one of the most EPIC soundtracks of the 16-bit era!

  • @gigser You and me both. I first played this around 16, and all I could think was "F#%& YEAH!" By far, my favorite track in this game. Sakimoto is amazing at his craft. :D

I just bought this off eBay last night - had to play it once again!

  • 2:10 always gives me the chills. It's just THAT epic!

  • Wow. Just looked this song up to reminisce... and have been stunned by its quality. Atmospheric and driving!

  • @Christuserloeser thanks. personally I rate the music of Turrican 2 made by Chris Hülsbeck above everything else of that era. Modern day is Kelly Bailey's soundtrack to Half-Life series (search for Vortal Combat).

  • @saivert No, you're correct. The standard driver for US developed games was GEMS and it is the number one reason why all these games sound so extremely shitty. They used it because FM wasn't common in the US, so they offered GEMS instead of SMPS (Sonic, Streets of Rage, etc.) because it offered MIDI support.
