The Speed Vest is experimental clothing designed to create an environment in which bicyclists are respected as equal users of the roadway.
It increases motorists' awareness of both cyclists and speed limits by displaying the bicyclist's speed in bright 6" electroluminescent digits on the bicyclists back.
The Speed Vest is currently being tested in Minneapolis & St. Paul as an advocacy tool to promote an image of bicycling as fast, safe transporation.

If I had that thing I'd be too embarrassed to fall under 20mph... could prove to be a great work out tool. Or do some sprints and prove how everyone who drives a car is either disabled or a fucking idiot.

Spend the money on decent lights.

Really neat project, but you really should start with adding some basic bike safety reflectors and lights: reflectors white front, red rear, orange pedals & wheels + white front & red rear light. It is pointless driving with that vest without seeing where you are going and without being seen. You are like a ghost biker with a number on your back.
