Wow, this is unrecognizable as the same song as the popular versions. It has a totally different vibe. She's not a romantic singer. What she sings with the most emotion are the political ballads. The first time I heard her and her husband sing Che Guevara I about cried and I didn't even know who he was. No disrespect intended, but this she might as well have been singing about washing dishes.
this is hideous. I'm thankful that Celine did this cover, otherwise it might have been known as a rubbish song all it's life. Good job Celine made it beautiful! :) Because it is a beautiful song.
This song was written for Peggy Seeger, and this is the original version. You are simply broadcasting your ignorance to the rest of the world. Thanks for letting us know - so we can avoid you.
You're very welcome! Because,as far as I am aware, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so i'll accept yours, as I am obviously a bigger person than you are. I understand we all have different minds that think individually. You, obviously, have difficulty in coming to terms with this.
Another version I initially wasn't sure I'd like but was won over on after listening to it in it's entirety is the Alison Moyet cover. It's a cross between the original folk & the slower more passionate interpretations. It's performed excellently by Alison Moyet. I'm not into folk music, but I liked the guitar & bongos combined with her simply skillful slightly more up tempo vocals. However, I still like Celine Dion's cover best over all. It's soulful, which I love. Besides, it's Celine!
... this original performance by Peggy Seeger is hard to listen to objectively after all those others. I'm not particularly impressed with it or the vocals. I read on Wikipedia that Ewan MacColl never liked all the other covers. He wrote the song for Peggy & she was the first to record it as a faster folk song. He later married her so, of course, he's biased. LOL That being said, the song is skillfully written & has been beautifully interpreted by many.
The 1st version I heard was Celine Dion's & I fell in love with it! I then realized that Roberta Flack was the 1st to make the song popular. I heard her version & felt it was pretty good, but I still favored Celine's version. David Cook's rendition on AI was a pretty good snippet of the song by a guy. I had thought Roberta was the original, then I started to lookup the lyrics & came across all these other covers! I didn't realize this song had been covered by so many! The original version... ?

Let the heart lead u to the one that means the most
Peggy's version is great and the way Ewan MacColl probably intended.
And Celine Dion? Bwahahahahahaha
