Methane Bubbling to from Arctic Ocean

Here's a breaking news story about a huge discovery of methane gas reserves. The good news is that all this gas could help meet the world's growing energy needs. The bad news is this methane is burping up into plumes from the arctic ocean into the atmosphere from holes in the ice that are 3,000 feet across. That's a lot of gas from one hole.

But unfortunately there are many more that just one hole. Russian scientists say they have discovered thousands of these holes emitting methane plumes from the arctic shelf.

According to Igor Semiletov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, methane gas is 20 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. Semiletov has studied these methane plumes for years but most of that time they were only about 30 meters in diameter. Semiletov said, "We carried out checks at about 115 stationary points and discovered methane fields of a fantastic scale — I think on a scale not seen before."

But with these methane bubbling holes having expanded to nearly one mile wide with no end to their expansion in sight , he is more than just a little bit concerned.

The question is, "Should we be concerned?"

I try to show this people the SCIENCE & all they do is act like you never showed them the facts! I seriously doubt we will ever do anything to curb CO2 until it becomes so obviously even Sen. are you people serious?!this is mankinds fault.we put so many greenhouse gases into the atmosphere that the albedo effct is occuring..this means that the sun is not relfecting off the ice anymore which results in the sea ice and permafrost melting.when this methane is released into the air it is 21 times more potent than CO2 to the atmosphere and could very quickly cause rapid climate and temperature change...it is totally our fault, and though this news report looks ridiculous, it is correct...

I am an american, and your comments are correct, to me and so many others, science was invented by evil people trying to control the human species. We need to wake up people, this isn't real. Nah, we shouldn't be concerned. Everybody knows science is just a commie plot. Real Americans reject science, especially now that we can be put in Guantanemo for saying that the govt is a filthy massmurdering liar that is mjelting the arctic ice on purpose so oil companies can thrive for another two years.
