  • @reviewitorhateit Don't forget the original hip hop artist, "The LAST POETS."

  • @dukejah No your facts are incorrect. The original hip hop artist with a message were the "THE LAST POETS." This goes back to the late 1960's before Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Their message was political to the core. An attempt to bring the black psyche out of darkness.

  • @reviewitorhateit thats the exact way of explaining what i do homie!

  • @alexdilone:

    Great point...

But what I gave was sort of a beginner's reference for artists whom I feel exemplify the balance between mainstream recognition and underground integrity. I'm well acquainted with several of the artists you mentioned, plus many you didn't. Unfortunately, the beginner or layperson might at first find it overwhelming to reference the entire spectrum of artists whose work is still underground. Those I gave are but a start point from which to explore.

  • WORD! but you see common, wyclef, talib, the roots and mos def is all I hear when it comes to "man, check out the real artists". They get radio play, movie spots and plenty of love from chapelle and other celebs.... how about we hear about some real freaking artist who don't get enough pub but deserve it 10 times fold!!! Living legends, Atmosphere, Sunspot Jonz, 2MEX, Immortal technique, Sage Francis, Mystik Journeymen... there that is a super good example of some true artists.. do your homework

  • No Disrespect homey,

But it was ALWAYS coined the term Hip Hop. That term was started by the late great COWBOY of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5 back in 1976............Before you embark on words and titles, do your research.

Peace and love to the Hip Hop Nation ~ Duke Jah-El

  • im more of a skinny white indie kid, but Chuck D is just fucking amazing, you just cant fuckign beat Bring The Noise

  • CHuck D. Best rapper to have ever held a mic. Bar NONE.

  • HIP HOP is a movement brother see the hip hop you listen to is the radio junk, the mainstream shit but if you take the time to listen to Immortal Technique, Chuck D, Bambatta you get whole new realization of what hip hop can be, like you can't judge a music form or culture depending on what you are shown, you have to dig deeper and try to find the diamond in the ruff, that's the fifth element of hip hop, knowledge, so in order to understand a subject you have to have the knowledge.

    PEACE BROTHA

  • dude you got hip hop and rap mixed up, rap is a way of projecting your voice such as singing on the other hand hip hop is the cultural movement created by the people living in poor areas of New York which includes rapping, graffiti, turntablism, b boys and girls and knowledge and other elements that are associated.
