My name is Martin Taylor. I am a UK-born filmmaker living in Sydney, Australia.

My creative aim in life is to be documentary filmmaker specialising in the exploration of human consciousness.

This video diary is of my experience as I went through the infamous 'GATEWAY' programme at non-profit home of consciousness research - The Monroe Institute (TMI) in Virginia USA.

TMI has a developed an audio guidance technology that can shift your perception of reality. This technology was formerly adopted for remote viewing by the US Military. TMI's appeal to me is that it is quite scientific and neutral in its approach. It is a powerful experience, but with no dogmas as such -- only that going through the programme, you might consider that 'you are more than your physical body'.

Naturally this notion has intrigued me for many years.

I made this short documentary as a personal record, but mostly, to find out if I could capture abstract experiences of the mind in a film. The idea was, that if I could make a film about my own experience -- then I can apply these principals to a film about other people.

What I found over the course of the program week however, was that the borders of my filmmaker role, my identity, and myself -- began to blur. And then came an experience that tied it all together and shook me to my core; a profound and crystal-clear glimpse of the 'mechanics' of how reality is built, formed and is always working. Something I was not expecting at all. On top of this - when I returned home, major aspects of my life began to fall apart.

I went there as a simple filmmaker, an observer. I wasn't prepared any this other turmoil.

These unexpected personal consequences of that week of GATEWAY, have forever changed the course of my life. I knew then that nothing would ever be the same and it's still all piecing itself together...

But I now know more than ever, how to approach the stories surrounding this subject. And how a verite style documentary about inner experiences, of perception and consciousness, can be made in a universal, engaging, non-judgemental and emotive way.

THE REST OF REALITY is planned as a documentary series that will expand on my existing work to date. The concept and treatment is like no other documentary in the genre.

THE REST OF REALITY series will explore aspects of reality through the stories of a team of 'explorers', carefully picked for their worldview and life experiences -- as they go through the GATEWAY experience at The Monroe Institute -- shifting and expanding their perception with the powerful audio guidance technology uniquely developed by TMI.

Sent out to chart the far reaches of consciousness behind the veil of reality, and tackling their own personal struggles, what will the explorers find, and how will it transform them? Ultimately, through each of these compelling characters, their stories and their experiences in the rest of reality -- we as viewers, will learn about ourselves, and the often-difficult choices we make in navigating our lives.

THE REST OF REALITY needs backing, support, funding and a visionary television broadcaster. And so I am putting it out there...

  • Excellent documentary ! Thankyou so much :-)

  • I too am very impressed, Martin. Aside from the beauty of your film, I appreciated your openness and your skepticism.

I have had sporadic OBEs and frequent lucid dreams most of my life. I read Journeys Out of the Body about 26 years ago, along with several other books dealing with altered consciousness. I haven't explored that much in years, but your film has renewed my interest. I look forward to seeing your series and contributing if i can.

  • This was magnificent. I read Journeys Out of the Body 30 years ago and used it to consciously move out of my body. Only recently returning to his work and your film made the Gateway Experience, which I've been considering, much more tangible. Thank you.

  • I just completed a weekend with Focus 10 $ 12 held in Sydney - marvellously enlightening, exciting, exhilarating and beyond my expectations.....Love your work

  • Fantastic! Brings me back to my Gateway experience. Thank you so much, Martin!

  • What a beautifully made film - i've been researching hemisync and Mr Monroe for years and empathised with this film a huge amount - after watching I now feel it's time to take the plunge and experience it for myself at the institute - a very considered and intelligent film of such a tricky subject - great work.

  • Awesome, just awesome! This series will have a serious impact on many.

I look forward, backward and present, to it! You are very talented, thank you Martin!

  • Reality is fractal.

  • Awesome, Martin. Really awesome.

  • excellent - now, time for a headphone session!
