  • awesome \m/ Real music!

  • @andyg3 you're right men entwistle is essential in the who

  • men pete are ball and old....but....still fucking rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @RobbyBobbins

and im sure pino is one,

but the who require a specific sound, the bass is a very important part to any who song.

pino always uses finger, has a plain sound, and jazz'es things up a bit.

its nice, but its not who style.

the who needs a loud grunty bass. even if its not entwistle standard, you can still give a bass a bit of grunt

  • @gov360dotorg I agree evolution in a band is critical (Look how the Beatles started out, and then what they ended up doing!), but that chaotic style has always been the very core of the Who's live performances. If you listen to Live at the IoW you'll notice Pete has a strong lead as does John, but yet their sound remains fantastic, if you like that kind of sound. The Who did evolve, though - From classic punk to synthesizer-laced tunes, and beyond.

But certain things always remain in a band.

  • @andyg3 The Who has evolved and changed - like any good band should do - like people do -

They do NOT need a "lead" bass player like John anymore - Pete is doing way too many leads on guitar for John's style to work anymore - it would be chaos.

Now, back in the day - Pete needed John to play bass like a lead instrument - not anymore. It is too bad John is dead - but he was actually ruining their over-all sound on their tours after 96 when Pete started really playing LEAD on the guitar.

  • @gov360dotorg

    i duno.

but someone whos a bit more rocky on the bass.and can chose a good tone, like john did.

pinos tone is to soft for the who.

  • @andyg3 Well John Entwhistle is DEAD - so who do you suggest???

  • I love The Who but Roger needs to hang it up. He just can't sing anymore. 45+ years of singing your guts out almost every night just isn't kind to the vocal chords. That being said I did see them in 2008 and it was a pretty good show considering the member changes and their age.

  • Pete Townsend owes my 16mo son $2 for dropping the F-bomb
