(Text of Poem below)
Video features a poem written and narrated by Spadecaller about the campaign tactics of John McCain and Sarah Palin with paintings and visuals by Bouguereau, Boulanger, and Spadecaller. Music accompaniment includes John Phillip Sousa's "The Air Force Hymn," and the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann".
Campaign politics have taken us down
The dark abyss where souls are sold
Where primetime smiles and heroes drown
In vainglory and old war tales too often told.
Forgetting duty and country for cronies and clan
They lynch the name of a Christian man
Make him foreign. Call him Abdul and Hussein.
Is this the shining maverick, John Sydney McCain?
Your friend now comes to Americas towns
With Exxons beauty queen and paid for clowns
Cloaked as witch hunting populists with glossy lips
Flag-waving bootlickers from big oil politics.
Who are these candidates - slingers of hate,
Fanners of racism, cutters of bait?
Indifferent to hunger, poverty, and war
As usual, theyve come for your vote once more.
You sure cut to the chase. Their behavior has been incorrigible. For that reason alone I will not vote for McCain and Palin. McCain's caution to his hateful supporters came too late; as he has allowed and encouraged his "pitbull" Sarah to cast doubts about his loyalty to the country and guilt for his past associations. Have we fallen that far back to our ugly past that McCarthyism is acceptable again? I commend you for making this video. Thanks!
