I think it takes place in some "comicbook" reality in which there are so many gangs on the streets of New York ordinary people are afraid to go out in the night. Ironically enough that wasn't that far from the reality of late 70's New York.

They leave the 72 st station, and run into the park via 100th st? I guess they figured mo one would notice. that would have required a 28-block run uptown. I went to this area, and recognised the 72 st. station, but the 1100th st way in looked familiar, too.

There is also a rumor that more than one actor was used for each Fury for that reason.

Definitely weird. There are very few Bystanders, and almost no traffic on the streets.
