In this installment of Hofstra Law School's Video Viewpoints series, Professor Eric Lane reacts to a speech that U.S. President Barack Obama delivered at the United Nations on September 22, 2010. Lane, the Eric J. Schmertz Distinguished Professor of Public Law and Public Service at Hofstra Law, asserts that the U.S. needs to achieve a higher level of civic literacy among its citizens before spreading democracy to developing countries. Lane is co-author, with Michael Oreskes, of the book The Genius of America: How the Constitution Saved the Country and Why It Can Again.
