The somewhat widely known "Somari the Adventurer" in action - a NES pirate crossover between Sonic and Mario and also distant relative of "Sonic 3D Blast 5" and "Sonic 3D Blast 6".

Moreover, there was Mario 15 game where Sonic was for some reason hanging around in Mario's world, so the balance is undisturbed.
