He knows who he is, and he remembers her- that's why it was so difficult for him to be a human- if you remember from his first appearance as a human, he calls them lowly and is angered that he's now one of them. In a later episode, he talks with Endymion and Endymion says he should feel lucky that he's a human now. Ami doesn't know who he is though, but the "pull" is still there :p <3 Ami/Nephrite. <3

ok I might be over pycho-analizing this but I think that Nepherite is simply remembering her kindness for a second time and is embarassed that he has received kindness from somone he hates so much, resulting in a helpless confusing state, where he is unsure of of his own feelings for her.
