This cut is from Jean Luc Ponty's 1979 Album titled "A taste of passion". I have clips from the riot which includes people watching the city burn from across the river in Canada along with the Canadian fire department which helped in putting out the flames. In this video, you'll see looting and burning. Sit back and enjoy the music. Note that congressman John Conyers starts this video off and he can be found at 4:44. Mitt Romney's father was the Governor of Michigan during the riots,he is at the 4:28 mark of this video.

  • I've always liked how the key change to this song goes down from C minor to A minor. (Most key changes tend to go up instead.) It's reminiscent of James Brown saying in "Doin' it to Death" that "I feel so down, I have to get down in D." (He goes from F to D.)

  • Ralphe is great but I would easily say Guy N'Sangue is his equal.

  • @hieronomy You're right! He still amazes me when he plays.... Check out :The Ralphe Armstrong Show" on fb. Jean-Luc is scheduled to be a future guest! ;-)

  • @henrygibsonmusic

Ralphes work with JLP is stunning almost 40 years later . He is the best IMHO that ever played the bass . I grew up in Monroe MI 68-71 . I was laways proud of my musical sophistication because I listened to all these classically

trained musicians . Ha. they were all musically driving Lamborghinis while the rock players drove vettes

  • I was introduced to Jean Luc back in the late 70's. In July of '79, I saw them live at J.W. Little Stadium in London, Ontario. They backed up Supertramp. An odd pairing I know, but what a mind blowing experience!!!!

  • Thanks for posting! I'm the keyboardist for Ralphe's current band "The International Detroiters." Ralphe has just started doing his own Internet TV show broadcast live from downtown Detroit on most Fridays. You can create an account at udetroit.com and scroll for The Ralphe Armstrong Show! Enjoy!!!

  • @renetomas1

Ralphe Armstrong , classically trained bassist , from Detroit I believe .
