Thank you so very much. You taught me the slip stitch!

I have been crocheting for a little over a month now and recently I got a book from the library to try to learn some new stitches. ... needless to say i needed a visual tool. This video was so easy to follow and actually made it easier for me to finish off a row and begin a new one. The book does this confusing step where i had to " turn the piece. Insert your hook through both loops at the first stitch from the previous row." WHAT? a simple single chain works perfectly. TY

well. for some reason, the slip stitch confused me, as i did not know where to put the hook. i saw somewhere saying to put the hook in the back loop. is that correct, or just another way to do the slip stitch? thanks for this video!!!!

@bjbear5103 It's just another way to do the slip stitch. There are 3 loops to use - the top loop, the bottom loop and the back loop. The top and back loop are usually used for the first row. Then they switch to the top 2 loops of the stitch previously made for following rows.

@tanisgalik In addition, you can choose to use the back loop in the first row so it will create a double-chain edge which is often used in many patterns (using any crochet stitch) to create a double-chain edge along the bottom edge. This way it will match the top edge - as in crocheting a scarf. Working a finishing row around the scarf is not necessary because both edges will match and look finished as is.
