Lafayette High School Chamber Orchestra, directed by Jennifer Grice, performing the second and third movements of Shostakovich's string quartet no. 8 at their SCFA Lexington Concert before they go to the Midwest Clinic in Chicago this year. Midwest is an International Band and Orchestra Conference. The Lafayette Chamber Orchestra is the fourth high school orchestra from KY to perform at the clinic in its 62 years.

People are nuts... this is fantastic considering it's a high school group. Of course there are issues, but wow... I am impressed.

Sigh. It's not that they're a bad chamber orchestra. But Shostakovich...and especially the second movement of his eighth quartet...should really only be performed by string quartets. For the sake of clarity, precision, and balance.
