Maikaze Daiko is pleased to present the San Francisco World Percussion Arts Festival over two weekends in October, 2010. This community event will feature drumming and dance from around the globe, including Afro-Brazilian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Caribbean, African Diasporic and Japanese.
This year's Festival features:
• Hiroyuki Hayashida Trio, from Japan - presenting fresh original work through the modern folk art of Japanese Taiko drumming
• Quimbanda Grupo Carnavalesco directed by master drummer Gamo Da Paz - Afro-Brazilian and traditional Candomblé Music
• Afia Walking Tree & Spirit Drumz - African Diasporic drumming, dance and storytelling
• Duniya Dance and Drum Company -- Indian Bhangra and West African drum and dance
• Jim Santi Owen - master tabla artist
• Joe Venegoni - internationally acclaimed string instrumentalist and percussionist
• Susu Pampanin & Troupe Joweh R. A. W. -- Middle Eastern Percussion and new generation bellydancing
• Val Serrant - Caribbean Steel Pan / Traditional drumming
• And of course, Maikaze Daiko, a community Taiko group lead by Bruce Ghent, former student of Taiko Grandmaster Seiichi Tanaka.
