This is a personal journey film about singer/songwriter John Mellencamp. It was made during his summer 2009 tour with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson; Mellencamp also recorded his new album in three historical locations during the month and a half tour. The story is told through the eyes of the father/son film making team of Kurt and Ian Markus, neither of whom had ever made a film before. The entire 90-minute film is shot on super8, to stunning effect. This is not a retrospective film with interviews. It is of the moment.

Saw this movie in Indy last night as the opening at Mellencamp's last stop on the No Better Than This tour. It was very, very good.

Hey JM, you shouldn't have to try this hard to create an image or legacy. Just let your body of work speak for you. Let it happen naturally. Don't force it down our throats with this contrived baloney of malt shops, Sun Studios, baptisms, southern black churches & johnny cash quotes.

In contrast with todays super sharp 1080p world, the use of this medium lends authenticity to the work with an archival feel reminiscent of our earliest memories... and from what I see here, it was a brilliant choice... looking forward to seeing it.
