Mark Abriel discovers something unusual in the forest near Byron Bay, one morning in February, 2009. A lone plant frond around four feet in height is wildly gyrating, to an unknown beat, while the vines, palms and other rainforest flora sit perfectly still on this windless morning.
What is controlling the wild motions of this arboreal dweller? As the motion of the frond reaches a peak, a bright yellowish object is captured streaking down into the base of the plant. Another similar or the same object is filmed again, this time appearing to the far left of the frame, as the plant frond reaches maximum
forward velocity.
Could the mysterious flashes around the plant, somehow be involved in the undulating other worldly dance of the lone frond?
I've seen plants at my cottage do this before! When I was a kid, I could see what appeared to be fairies around plants (always at my cottage, which is a magical place), even though back then I didn't know what they were! I wonder if there's an army of little fairies dancing up and down this plant! Or maybe the plant just feels like gettin' it's groove on! I know if I was a plant, I'd totally want to get my groove on to the magical sounds of nature!
