FOLLOW THE FULL EXPERIENCE OF THE ROAD TRIP HERE

I arrive in Mumbai where I meet the men who work for a very unusual food business: the dabbawallas. They are visible to anyone on the road, carrying their innumerable tin boxes that contain the food that will feed a total of 200,000 workers every day. This business is a lesson in both sustainability and mobility, as the dabawallas criss-cross a city that is notorious for its traffic jams and without adding a drop of fuel to the daily consumption. Not to mention that they follow a unique code that makes every box arrive on time for lunch and back again at the right house, without fail, every day. On foot, by bike, in the occasional wooden cart and, of course, with a little help from the city's legendary train service: here are the men who are never late with your daily food, the dabbawallas.

  • Not good? What do you mean not good? Because an organization like the dabbawallas can outshine and outclass everyone in the entire world when it comes to operating efficiency and customer satisfaction? Is it because they're from India and developing nations are not supposed to surpass developed ones? Like said before, these guys maintain six sigma. This means that their error rate is so low (1 in about 6 million) that if you had to give a realistic example of what perfect is, this would be it.

  • An interesting fact about them is that they have been operating at 6 sigma levels for decades ... this means less than 3 errors per MILLION deliveries ... a quality level that multinational corporations like GE are struggling to attain! Also their ID/coding systems are patented & they use cycles combined with public transport to achieve these fabulous results.Their reputation actually won them an invite to Prince Charlse's wedding to Camilla!
