This was a huge tree that we saw after hiking for 3 hours into the Amazon jungle. Its 30 metres around and 60 high! SAVE THE RAINFOREST ITS BEAUTIFUL AND HAS SO MUCH LIFE!
I hear you! I am all about replanting and leaving some for the future to enjoy. :) I can only speak for us here in Wa state USA that we really take pride in Planting. I always leave a campsite,Logging job or what have you clean and no garbage. If they are not doing their job it's too bad because it's truly an perfect breeding ground for trees to grow! :)
There are very little environmental laws there, and lots of forest is destroyed. in just 35 years an area of Amazon rainforest the size of 25 times my country(Netherlands) had been destroyed. maybe you think I am a treehugger, but to me they should leave those centuries old hardwoods in the rainforest.
Well I don't know about there but here in the USA 2 out of every 3 wooded acres are tied up in parks reserves or other set asides never to be logged so we have plenty of stuff to look at for the rest of everyones lives.

Why destroy it, if you keep the rainforest you can get a lot more things like medicines, which are abundant and still discovered in rainforest.

I'd love to see the saw that fells that and own it.
