Wow great Reel.. Any chance you could help me create a short Ident? I'm producing a t.v show for CUTV (Cardiff Uni T.V). It'll be great weekly exposure to a large student community and a great project to support. In a nut shell, it's a review show interviewing people fresh from cinema screenings about their impressions of the latest releases. Please e-mail me if you can help in any way; fraserisaac@hotmail.co.uk
Cheers.

well, first, watch a lot of portfolios, showreels, etc... tv commercials, title openings, musical clips, are very good too. Fall in love with cinema, cartoons, theatre, paintings ... it are the fathers of motion graphics...
make a eye's coaching... it will be need "strong" and "trained"...
study design, the theory and the history... study psicology, like gestalt...

go to a book store, search for the "art books" session... you will find a lot of design books and motion graphics books too...
after all this, start learning some software... after effects and / or combustion... maya and / or 3d studio max...
all your software skills, like photoshop, corel, illustrator, flash, even new O.S., like linux (for inferno, flint, flame) and mac OS, are important... so, develop then to the max.
video edting software are important too... avid, final cut, premiere...

I think that there is no "one tutorial" definitive to be an motion graphic professional. This is a mix of a lot knowlegde area...
