On May 25, 2008, The Houston chapters of Veterans For Peace and Military Families Speak Out placed over 4500 U.S. flags in the ground at Hermann Memorial Park, in honor of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks to the surprising numbers of volunteers who showed up, 4100 flags were placed between 10:00a and 2:00p, by teams of 4-6 people working in different sections. At 2:00p, the remaining 400 flags were placed in the Texas Casualties section, with each remaining volunteer participating, which is where this clip picks up. Each flag has a tag with each soldier's name, rank, service, date and place of death. The middle section, containing t-shirts and streamers, honors Iraqi civilians killed; this display was installed by members of the Houston chapter of Code Pink.
