Now, scale up his chest and gnaw his face off. Mileena would be proud.

Lol, wouldn't America be awesome if the guys that went out and bought a handgun actually took training in a blade weapon? That would be pretty cool. :D

i trained for 5 years with a pair of steel octagon (non-pointed) sai. they were excellent and then when I bought a nice pair from japan my hands were ready and could really control them, also they were lighter so the previous weight training was really good to make my hands have a lot of control. make sure you measure your forearm and choose an appropriate length. get steel ones, DO NOT GO PLASTIC. aluminum ones are too light

@mrsarcastic1988 i think he means how you twist your hands

@hempev just a wanted to add this, you throw to the side like dudejo said, so as to hit them if they move, and what he was more trying to get across was to not throw the sai vertically but side ways so that the youk may pierce the foot if you miss with the hitting part.. hope that clarifies. As he said these arent normally ment for killing. They are mostly ment for pinning someone onto the ground via their foot. Lest you forget, Okinawa is on an island. (sandy....)

@dudejo No, he simply means go outside to do throwing, which is where they are when doing nage (throwing). If you always are "throwing outside", then what if they avoid in the opposite direction?

i know it's kind of late to answer this comment but here goes anyway
would it make sense if he was saying to target outside the body in case the opponent tries to side-step?
is it possible to throw the sai from the handle rather than the tip? or are both sides possible for throwing?

@toastytoast123 Both - it depends on the distance to the target and how many turns the sai takes in flight.

I am currently a Yellow-Belt-Green-Stripe in Tae-Kwon-Do (7th Gup), And my dad is teaching me to use a Katana, Shuriken, Staff, and I would like to use a Sai also. for a training sai, I am looking at solid black plastic. are they good? what would you reccomend?

@renegade78100 Get the best you can afford - plastic sai at the bottom, then aluminum ones, next steel but not hand-made, and finally handmade, especially from Shureido out of Okinawa, at the top.
