The car bomb. Low-tech, cheap and deadly. A symbol of 21st century assassination. A brutal and indiscriminate weapon heavily associated with the Middle East. In fact, its roots go way deeper. Avi talks to Mike Davis, author of Buda's Wagon: A Brief History of the Car Bomb. Watch all the stories at www.cbc.ca/onthemap

  • Say about what? This is exactly my point. When you throw around banalities like "anti-American commie cocksucker," there is nothing to discuss. You are not even engaging in conversation. You are just making noise, like dogs barking in an alley.

  • Because I suspect a man who uses terms like "anti-American commie cocksucker" may not be all that well-informed.

  • Calvin44,

What is the title of the last book you read?

  • One last point. The extent of the US bombing of Japan in 1945 can be seen as a massive war-crime, in fact former secretary of defense Robert MacNamara, who was involved in it, admitted as such in the documentary "Fog of War". And before you get all uppity recognising that war has to be played according to rules, like not burning a load of citizens to death and risking US pilots for no reason, is not equivalent to supporting Japanese fascism...

  • "In Afghanistan, to stop Taliban agression." Taliban aggression? Against whom? I'm sorry, I certainly have very little sympathy for any form of Islamism but that doesn't excuse posting blatent b*llshit as fact. And as for Iraq it was already "stable", the US in "bringing democracy" destabilised the region and they had plenty of warning about this from top personel in the US army who actually knew, due to training, how the modern process of invasion and "nation-building" woul turn out.

  • Because almost all of these are American phenomenon and, being such, give us very little understanding about the car-bomb in general, which are usually used outside of the developed world; and since the show is ten minutes long I think this can be thus forgiven. Why do you think that only car-bombs so directly related to the US should be discussed, it seems a little egocentric...

  • "Iraq and Afghan would be peaceful if it were not for the non-stop Muslim murdering." Really? That's absolutely fascinating!!! I had no idea, but I'm going now to burn my history books which have, apparently, being telling me lies about Soviet invasions, US backed Islamist insurgencies and the like. From now on I promise to learn all my historical and political understanding from CNN and YouTube comment pages...

  • how could you not mention the speedboat bomb against the american soldiers in yemen, in the US the rigging of police cars to explode in the 1960's, mafia use of the car bomb assasination, and the fucking oklahoma city bombing??

  • these are AWESOME, are you still making them??

  • "Iraq and Afghan would be peaceful if it were not for the non-stop Muslim murdering."

So America kills more in its bombing campaigns than in all of the recent regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. You promote twisted logic.
