@Strykercom1 Maybe you're right on the poly. I finished the mahogany the same way, but used Minwax Golden Oak stain. (It's my favorite shade of Minwax...looks great on anything.)
@bogsdolics Foam brushes fall apart with lacquer. Glad to hear that about the heat. I've had people tell me that you should never lacquer in the heat. But I've done it for years and have never experienced any problems.
Hi Boss would a foam brush be any good or would it add air bubbles,
warming the wood! again I have heard boat builders talking about putting a heater on before varnishing then turning it off when shop hot, applying varnish then as the wood cools the gaps or holes in the woods fibres/grains reduce sucking the varnish into the wood grain,
@stevinmarin i think thats what i learned from watching marc over at the wood whisperer and i love that shade of minwax as well
havent found a wood that i would stain that it doesnt look great on

i thought it was the other way around with the melting in? i thought poly melted it?
