**The meaning of the word "homophobia" as said in this video is more closely related to the meaning of "heterosexism" or "sexual prejudice" rather than that of an actual phobia.

Reverend Peter Mullen was the Vicar I was referring to.

  • Please do not equate Islam with race. Not all muslims are Arabic and it is this sort of equation that has led to the apparent inability of Europe to criticise the religion without appearing to be "racist". It is not "racist" to be against muslims. It is prejudiced, yes, but not racist.

  • Sorry if I offended, there is a discussion on this topic earlier in the comments.

I said it because it was the first thing that came to my head when I thought of prejudices. It is an unfortunately common association between the two which I now realise is incorrect.

  • So, I have a question. There's a girl I know (yes, this is a real person.) who is homosexual. She has never had sex with another girl, but she admits that she only has feelings for women.

She goes to church with me, and is clearly eager to follow God. She is never slow to say that, in her eyes, according to her religion, homosexuality is a sin.

Does this mean my gay friend is homophobic?

  • Possibly, but I would say she is more of a "self hater" - someone who can't accept themselves for who they are

  • If society uses the Bible to beat up gay folks, society MUST enforce ALL the Biblical laws; like the same book says that I can sell my first born daughter into slavery, Hmm, I wonder how much I could sell a hard working fertile 31 year old woman for these days?

Or if someone wears a blend of cotton/poly, the same book tells us to stone them to death; and not the god way....

  • I am a gay teen, and I have a friend who is very conservative. She uses the "hate the sin, not the sinner" argument as well. She doesn't know that I'm gay, as I haven't told her, since I'm afraid how she'll judge me. I'm not an openly gay person (to everyone, atm), but I strongly believe that the points you have addressed in this video are spot on. Being gay is not a choice, and "hate the sin, not the sinner" is a purely homophobic sentiment.

    Love you, Rob! I subscribed!

  • @jtso6123 that cuz no one wants to be like an american, not totaly sure why but i guess we suck

  • Oh I hate when people say it's a choice why would someone choose to be treated like this when they can choose the easier side

  • this is almost a good argument..... but.....not ...sorry.

  • I said it wrong. It's a choic to admit it. Not to have these attractions

  • Here's my theory: it's a choice to admit it. It isn't a choice to admit it.

  • Very very good. I was more than impressed at what you had to say. Well if sarah's beleif that sexuality is a choice, then hey, we are all bisexual. I suppose you can sleep with girls and guys when ever it tickles your fancy. And to think she was running for presidency. Aussies are perhaps just as homophobic as are americans.. They will never admit it, but they are!!

  • fuck off fags

  • very good one.

  • Religion is full of kaka. Also the language and underlying definitions we're using in our society mess us up completely.

We should break up the definition to: - I love people male/female - I love the look of certain types of people - I love physical intimacy with certain types of people - I love getting touched by catholic priests

    etc...

The term 'gay' is way overloaded.
